Google Labs recently released Google In Quotes, a service that uses the power of Google News to let you compare, side-by-side, statements by national politicians on issues you select by keyword.  You can click the “Spin” button to get two new quotes on the selected issue by each individual.  It’s not just the Presidential candidates either, you can also compare quotes by other national political leaders like Howard Dean and Condoleezza Rice.

Of course everyone will immediately begin using the service to compare statements made by Barack Obama to those made by John McCain. Perhaps more interesting however is that you can compare each politician to themselves (or against their VP)  and get a feel for how their public positions have shifted over time.

“In Quotes” isn’t just a U.S.-centric service either, you can also compare statements made by political leaders in Canada, the United Kingdom, and India, or even select the “custom” option and manually enter in the names of public figures you’d like to compare. (No, you can’t compare McCain’s statements about prisons with Morgan Freeman’s, trust me, I tried).
