[What could possibly go wrong?] Juxtaposition 101: Starbucks edition
December 1st, 2008 by Dave StudinskiStarbucks’ is promoting its philanthropy via a Facebook event plugging World Aids Day. The company is giving five cents to the Global Aids Fund for every hand-made drink it sells today in the United States and Canada.
It’s a noble effort to bring awareness to a disease (and its starting virus, HIV) that affects everyone, despite its stereotypical ties to sexual “deviance,” a.ka. gays, lesbians and transgendered folk.
That’s also what makes Starbucks’ promotional material – copied here from Facebook – a little trite:
