For a movie that was marketed as a mystery, there was little doubt to what was occuring. Furthermore, by exploring a new relationship rather than previous relationships, the film took what I considered to be the easy way out by avoiding the complex relationships except in small scenes. Barry Pepper, who’s character in interesting and complex, is in only a few minutes of the movie. There’s a good movie to be found in the ideas of Seven Pounds. This film, however, isn’t willing to risk enough to become that movie. It’s not to say it’s a bad movie, by any means. It’s just not an impressive movie or a smart movie.
