Backtracking on a similar 2005 study, researches said that men can, in fact, like other dudes and women, too. While modern science is catching up to some groundbreaking last-century theory, it’s pleasing to know journalists remain as innuendo-filled as ever. Cue the close of the NYT article.

“Sexual arousal is a very complicated thing,” she said. “The real phenomenon in day-to-day life is extraordinarily messy and multifactorial.”

Heard.

The article gives more detail on the study’s methodology, if you’re so inclined.

Lamar, best known for placing large billboards on the side of the highway to entertain you in traffic, is asking its local inventory holders to donate space to the “voiceless” Conan O’Brien.

On its own will, the company established aplaceforconan.com. The site serves as an official-ish hub for explaining Lamar’s intents.

If a digital display rotation is not fully sold, Lamar is asking its offices to display dynamic creative that shows Conan’s latest tweet – free.

The odds of catching a billboard with the display depend on how well your market is doing. (We’ll let you cheer for continued recession with Conan tweets or thriving economy.) Regardless, you can see a map of possible places to catch an active billboard here.

YouTube adds that [michael jackson] was this year’s fastest growing search term and [michael jackson thriller] became the fastest rising search on YouTube in 2009, too.

Morning is the Internet’s drivetime/primetime reports NYTimes.com. The rush results from American’s few hours of sleep each night, which causes what the Times coined as “network deprivation.”

Arbor Networks, a Boston company that analyzes Internet use, says that Web traffic in the United States gradually declines from midnight to around 6 a.m. on the East Coast and then gets a huge morning caffeine jolt. “It’s a rocket ship that takes off at 7 a.m,” said Craig Labovitz, Arbor’s chief scientist.

Akamai, which helps sites like Facebook and Amazon keep up with visitor demand, says traffic takes off even earlier, at around 6 a.m. on the East Coast. Verizon Wireless reported the number of text messages sent between 7 and 10 a.m. jumped by 50 percent in July, compared with a year earlier.

One source for the story serves as a poster child for this technical thirst and its affect on print media.

“It used to be you woke up, went to the bathroom, maybe brushed your teeth and picked up the newspaper,” said Naomi S. Baron, a professor of linguistics at American University, who has written about technology’s push into everyday life. “But what we do first now has changed dramatically. I’ll be the first to admit: the first thing I do is check my e-mail.”

So is post-midnight still the happy hour for porn? I think we need more research.
