Glenn Beck is a rating hit for Fox News despite, it seems, having dove head first into a pool of crazy while wearing a swimming cap that prevented any knowledge from entering his brain. This time he isn’t crying for the cameras, or mongering fear… he’s at the Alamo on tax day for a tea party. This is a few days old, but I’m exactly going out of my way to watch Glenn Beck. Here, verbatim, is how he opened the show:

“The media, the media understands that the fathers dressed up as Indians and threw some tea into the Boston harbor, but for the life of them can not understand why these people are in their streets all across America today. I will explain. Plus Ted Nugent, Penn Gillette, and people actually like you coming together to saying ‘Enough is Enough’. They take a stand and together they will draw a line in the sand. Here. Where it was originally drawn. Live at the Alamo.”

First off, the only founding father that has a possible involvement in the tea party was Samuel Adams. Why was Sam Adams involved? Maybe Teatime got in the way of Happy Hour. Regardless, very few were actually dressed as Indians. The dressing up as Indians was a myth inspired by the famous lithograph “The Destruction of Tea at Boston Harbor“. Of course, the Alamo doesn’t have anything to do with the tea party, but I think that’s a given, seeing as how it is in Texas. And, while, yes there was a line in the sand drawn at the Alamo, it was meant more as a metaphor for accepting certain death over surrender. Which, actually, might fit what the Republican Party is doing now.

Don’t believe me? You can watch the video below. The best part is the Ted Nugent guitar solo for the introduction.

To keep things light after that Olbermann post, I’ve decided to add another video that is as non-serious and yet still amazing as Olbermann’s speech was. Both anchors appear on MSNBC, and yet one, while angry, maintains his cool and manages to give an impassioned speech. The other, talking about politics as usual and a way that adults often talk to people they don’t like, makes an ass out of himself.

To set this clip up, let’s remember that Joe Scarborough, who is featured in this clip, is, as Salon puts it, a massive hypocrite. Let’s also ignore that it was one of Dick Cheney’s favorite words. Say what you will about Cheney, he knows how to get things done. Let’s just enjoy it for what it is: live television at it’s finest.

Yes, that is Joe “Make a big deal about Nipple-Gate” Scarborough dropping the f-bomb. More awful is the way that he shrugs it off as if it was no big deal, while if anyone else had done just that, it would have been a segment on his show.

NEW YORK CITY – Tourists led me to believe it was business as usual as I walked through TImes Square this morning.

First-timers stood in awe of the giant sign of commercialism that is Times Square. They stood about snapping pictures of marquees, screens and posters. Given our economy, it’s funny to take each display not as a piece of art (some may argue) but rather for what it is: an ad.

That concept is even funnier (coincidentally, anyway) given the news of the day. Minutes before jumping into the subway, a CNN text message alerted me to the Dow’s morning drop. My coworker – who, I should add, graciously housed my short visit – pointed out the scrolling news marquee below ABC/ESPN/Mouse’s studios. That’s what I took a picture of:

“MARKET MELTDOWN: Is it Black Friday?”

It, in fact, was not.
