ThinkProgress posts some selected excerpts of the interview. Below, a crucial moment in Stewart sorting out crap from fact, as transcribed by the site:

STEWART: Segregation used to be the law until the courts intervened.

HUCK: There’s a big difference between a person being black and a person practicing a lifestyle and engaging in a marital relationship.

STEWART: Okay, actually this is helpful because it gets to the crux of it. … And I’ll tell you this: Religion is far more of a choice than homosexuality. And the protections that we have for religion — we protect religion. And talk about a lifestyle choice — that is absolutely a choice. Gay people don’t choose to be gay. At what age did you choose to not be gay?

The show’s staff posted their own blog to get the conversation going on the Daily Show site. Ignorance and long-winded essays abound!

Fill in the blank: “If I could call off work for any reason and get away with it, I would call in _____ .”

If you’re smart, you’ll call in gay and celebrate International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10 by supporting your friendly local queers!

Also, further evidence we should all support homosexuals and their rights — purely for our own entertainment — is the fact that gays write better FAQ than straights. Some gems:

Will this get me on Oprah?

If it will get you to help out, then…yes…you’ll be on Oprah, Honey.

and

Are you implying that “gay” is equivolent [sic] to “sick?”

Whoa! NO! It’s just that “gay” rhymes with “day” so it was a cute and clever way to get you involved. HAHA! Now you’re hooked! You’re beautiful, very not sick, and super wonderful. Help us spread service however you feel comfortable, SWEET THING!

Can’t you just picture the dude writing this? Yes, it’s gotta be a dude. Good cause; good times.

*Bonus: It’s a work holiday here in Thailand, so I’m automatically participating! Join me!

Keith Olbermann, while considered far left to many, hit an emotional, controversial issue in this country that has many divided. An issue that touches so many in this country on their own civil rights and those that recognize the civil rights of so many being suppressed in a nation where all men are supposedly “created equal”, where the state and religion stand on their own. Where the freedoms of a state grant the freedom of religion to no extent. A governmental state that gives no bounds to religious values and the issues of the state never have to overlap with those freedoms if the people simply allow the constitution to stand on its own values and protections alone. These constitutional freedoms have been overruled, by a religious agenda that take away the freedom of religion to so many of its citizens. This nation is currently under multi-class citizenship. Something that should never exist in “the land of the free.” It is undebatable that one group of citizens do not have the equal rights as the rest of the nation. This speech, this video, captures some of the raw emotion and common sense this country is evidently forgetting in what is the civil rights issue of our time.
