Some not-so-good news for some youngin’ Hoosiers early this morning, via WHAS11 Louisville.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana State Excise Police cited 81 people — including 78 minors — at an underage drinking party near Indiana University’s campus in Bloomington.

Officers raided the party early Sunday morning after one of the residents sold a plainclothes officer a mixed drink for $5. A release from the excise police says state law requires a permit from the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission for the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Police say officers found more than 100 people inside the home, including many hiding in the garage and basement.

The Indiana Daily Student, IU’s student newspaper and likely where the AP story originated, features an insightful quote about the incident from a police officer:

“Large underage drinking parties are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Excise Officer Travis Thickstun said in the release.

Small binge drinking parties with minors are acceptable? Score.

One commenter on the IDS article weighs in with his wisdom:

Just like I’ve said all along, these students are alcoholics, hypocrites, in pathetic physical shape, and all pray to an invisible man in the sky. Luckily for me I listen to metal and not rap. I am in incredible shape and do not degrade my body with poison. Also, the women I date laugh at the notion of being at a so called “party”, drinking yourself into oblivion. Once again I’m better than all of these gelatinous, parasitic tapeworms. I dare you to disagree because you can’t. You people are so worried about what others think it’s pathetic. You’re jealous of me and you show it every single day in class. Of course you’ll never say anything because you’re all mindless cowards.

Yes, metal music is certainly the voice of sane, logical healthy people.

But hey, 81 is sizable number of citations. Some statistical analysis for you, courtesy of data from Indiana State Excise Police:

84 tickets and 7 warnings during IU’s welcome week earlier this fall, down from a high of 181 in 2007

84 citations to 82 people during Indiana State’s Homecoming Weekend

32 citations were issued during the Sept. 19 Kenny Chesney concert at Indy’s Lucas Oil Stadium. 22 of those were minor possession citations

19 citations to 16 people during Ball State University’s Homecoming Weekend

10 citations (6 minor consumptions) during 500 race day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In fairness, most of the citations were issues the night before the race.

I’m left with a handful of open browser tabs to pass along today, among them:

The U.S. Postal Service continues to find itself in deeper shit, announcing layoffs of nearly 1,500 people across the country.

The Daily News says, “a Ball State University student faces a felony charge after police said he tried to use $17 to bribe his way out of an operating a vehicle while intoxicated arrest.” (We’re a day late on this one, but it’s worthy.)

Blago et al. are 19 counts of indictment deep for a “wide-ranging scheme to deprive the people of Illinois of honest government.”

A majority of Republicans were for – and only eight Democrats opposed – a House bill enabling the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco ads and sales. And newspapers thought they were fucked before …

Speaking of the media, CNN’s Political Ticker says some journalists dialing into a conference call for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and National Security Advisor Jim Jones were instead greeted with, “Do you have any hidden desires? If you feel like getting nasty, then you came to the right place.” Sort of reminded them of a Palin call, I’m assuming …

Just about every day pointless non-binding resolutions are passed through the house to recognize various things that Congressman want to recognize. Usually they are passed without objection, with anyone who doesn’t want to support it just not voting. But a couple days ago a bill was passed recognizing 3/14 as National Pi Day. A seemingly harmless act caused at least ten Congressmen to vote ‘no’, including Indiana’s Mike Pence, who represents Indiana’s 6th district. Yes, Muncie’s district and one of the top members of the Republican party.

Pi: 3.14159...etc.

But why be against pi? All ten who opposed were Republicans. One was Ron Paul, of course. That guy doesn’t like anything. But why Mike Pence? Is it just the anti-education stance Republicans seem to be taking? Is it because Pence believes the value of pi to be three because he misread the Bible? One has to wonder how he would have voted on this bill.

In a stunning turn of events, someone has managed to successfully and humorously mock the President of the United States. And in case you are wondering, no, it was not Fred Armisen’s Fauxbama, an impression that is insulting not because Armisen’s not black, but because it’s not good. No, this, as most good things in comedy tend to, comes from our friends (if one can befriend people you’ve never met) at The Daily Show. They spend five minutes ripping into Obama, and they don’t even mock this guy.

No, the Daily Show mocked Obama’s tendency to pause (something Armisen, bless his soul, just can’t seem to get down) and not answer things fully. It’s because Obama is a real, flawed human being, sure, but it’s also a trend. They also get in some good jabs on hope (it’s dead), The Huffington Post, The Washington Post (who deserved it), and Elkhart, Indiana (who really deserved it).

And, of course, Stewart ends on what is always gold: mocking the talking heads of Chris Matthews and Bill O. Watch, kids, and enjoy.
